The Cohen would first clean five wicks of the menorah, and then light the incense on the golden altar, to show that the incense which represents, that our Essence is God, must permeate our Menorah, which is our soul, and from there, shine light to the rest of the world.
The the idea that God is who we truly are, must be renewed daily.
Every day when we say Ketoires, we remind ourselves that our Essence is in God, but then when we say Shema, we are ready to sacrifice our day for God.
We then take this inspiration into our work day.

There is the essence of God which is the essence of every person, then there is expression, which is the physical manifestation, and our job is to realize that the outer can become the inner.
