The problem with people, who unfortunately victims of bullying, which comes, believe it or not, often from parents with low self-esteem is, because they internalize the lie, that they are worthless; they spend their whole life on both fooling themselves and others that they are not (which is an intrinsic, not extrinsic truth.)
