The prisoner who holds the remote

Once upon a time the Chinese invented their latest form of Chinese torture
Gone was that old sadism, so crude and primitive of droplets irritating another
No, something far more sinister occurred
They sat you in a chair, tied you up and made you watch soap operas
There for years on end, different soap operas played
You could think, it could be worse
But oh no, you don’t understand how sadistic those Chinese speaking men are
For the truth is, you have cable (dstv) there are sports channels, and all you need to do is click the remote.
But woops, with hands tied up, though its inches away, stuck you are on that channel which day by day makes you more and more angry at the cruelty of a world that can invent such torture.
The truth is, we are that prisoner.
Our minds are producing either fears or fantasies – ironically, both being false, for what we fear, is based on past traumas but won’t occur in the future, and what we fantasize, usually is based on jealousy or seeing something we think will be pleasurable.
But the difference to the Chinese prisoner, is, we hold the remotes!
So next time your thinking – stop for a moment and say “do I want to be tied, stuck in this loop, or should I simply change the channel and think about something better!”
