The Principle of all Principles

Imagine a radio – you can’t be listening to two stations at once.

Well our brain is a radio – it receives different signals.

Now, why does the Talmud make the unbelievable statement, that though God can be with a humble idol worshiper, yet with a Torah scholar who is arrogant he cannot.

You see the idea of God residing – being with – is really like tuning into his frequency.

So as in the radio example, if you are on one frequency, there simply is no space for another.

Now we are a composite of God and anti-God; namely of goodness and selfishness – the former is about giving, the latter is about taking; the former is kind the latter can be – as we have seen through five thousand years of human behavior – unbelievably cruel.

So quite simply speaking: to the extent that I – my desires – which get infinitely exacerbated once I see myself in a grandiose light – for example, you wouldn’t expect a janitor to have great expectations, but if someone is the CEO, well you could expect that; and it is those very expectations that create a sense of entitlement (this is not to put down CEO’s who can likewise be humble but using it as an example) and with that entitlement comes a “right”, hence to now “not get my way” is seen as a violation of all that’s right and fair! – We see this state so clearly in toddlers who are so used to getting their way that they throw tantrums – it’s not the toy that they want, it’s rather the affront to their sense of entitlement.

Conversely, when we don’t have right, don’t have desire, we are quite simply able to allow in truth, which is kindness which is goodness – never mind humility, to follow God’s voice, which is obviously into our minds.
