The other night I had dinner with a friend of mind and I had to tell him an answer to a question he asked me the day before – “I know what you’ll tell me” says he to me – “so tell me” and amazingly, it was like he read my mind.

Psychologists call it scizo-affective, which is what psychologists do when they can’t understand things.

The truth is, it got me thinking, how is it that someone can read your mind?

We know, that the Rebbe was able to read peoples thoughts.

But most importantly, what is the lesson in all of this, because I think it’s very profound.

Our sages teach us, that our thoughts are not read by others!

In other words, average people cannot see what another is thinking, but certain souls can.

The previous Rebbe explained, that thoughts are an energy, and hence, just as one can listen to words spoken, which really is sound waves, similarly, if one has the ability, one can hear thoughts!

But the deeper significance of this whole thing is as follows:

Everything that exists, is really but God’s thoughts!

It is the manifestation of a single all-encompassing thought (called machshavah hakedumah de-ak) playing out in an experienced way!

In other words, every thought I have, was already thought by God; every emotion I feel, was already determined by God!

So am I thinking? or is God thinking? Am I feeling? or is God?

The answer is very certainly, fascinatingly unique!

For within us all, is what scientists call an observer.

This conscious intellect has the unique ability to arbitrate, discern, correlate, compare and hence deduce between what is real and what isn’t.

So unbeknown to us, there is the observer who always observes whatever mood I am in; whatever thought I have; whatever I hear, see, taste, touch smell, gets inputted into the observer’s observation.

And when all the dust settles, when all the data gets computed, we come to the internal realization of the external reality.
