The obvious/but not, truth

By zevi770 · June 30, 2015

How can it be – we all get married – myself included – we are in love – but 50% end up in divorce!

We know our relationship with God is like a marriage.

Often God’s relationship with the Jewish people is compared to a marriage.

We see a honeymoon at Mount Sinai.

Quarreling lovers, subsequently in Israel (for app. 1,4000 years)

Seemingly a serious separation – casting into the furnace of antisemitism (this of-course was harped on by antisemites.)

And the messianic age, is called the marriage.

The truth is very simple:

Our sages say it simply (concisely): There are two kinds of loves – the conditional and unconditional – the love of Amnon and Tamar (based on lust) was conditional (the moment Amnon had his needs fulfilled, he now despised her) but the love of David and Saul, based on kinship, admiration, respect – endures.
