The lesson we can all learn – from goats

Well if the modern age tried to instill anything into us, it’s Darwin’s theory; we are homo-sapiens, in other words, overdeveloped apes!
Of course from a mystical standpoint, that isn’t true, we are really God; but it’s somewhat true – in a instinctive animalistic body!
Of course, this is why we tend to feel torn between such opposing conflicting desires; the sublime to the not so sublime!
But here is an amazing lesson I learned from goats.
You see, currently I am watching one of the largest dairy goat farms in the country (producing chalav yisroel cheese, milk etc.)
There is truly nothing sweeter than baby goats – they (a little like dogs) wag their tales, jump up to see you – generally, are thrilled with the prospect of living.
But I just took a walk through the pen of the mature goats – and a little bit like most adults – somewhere the twinkle is gone replaced by realism – “life ain’t all that it’s made out to be!”
And this is exactly how we humans develop – in childhood, we are filled with hope, joy, love!
And somehow we experience painful episodes and gone goes the hope and the love; replaced with a cold unfeeling realism.
Now unlike humans who are the masters of the goats; we all have a loving shepherd, as a father!
So we cannot say, what occurs to almost everyone, has in it some kind of flaw!?
The simple question is – why wouldn’t God allow us to stay as kids?!
The answer is simple, for beyond the frivolous youthful energy filled with delusional aspirations, though positive, comes another cold hard fact – sure God could magically create the messianic utopia, but and this is a very big, but; would we enjoy a existence which we didn’t earn!? – this is what’s called “bread of shame” or in English, a handout – people feel embarrassed to get a handout – we prefer to work long hard hours, than for someone to hand us charity!
Similarly, life must transform, from the kid to the adult stage; and we must replace our loss with the notion that we are better, in fact, infinitely better off, being people, responsible, capable; and most importantly, the force of goodness and kindness, that transforms darkness into light!
