the lesson bunny taught me

By zevi770 · February 13, 2012

We had three bunnies

Boy have I learned everything I need to know from them

The first was exceptionally comfortable with life, so comfortable he ran away

The second was exceptionally afraid of life so afraid he in fact was neurotic and eventually eaten by the neighborhood cat

The third, now he is the perfect mix

Somewhat neurotic, somewhat comfortable.

He manages to claim his space – in fact, usually I need to accompany my children to the pool as he is less likely to attack if two people are in his territory than one.

But most importantly – and this is the crux, point, punchline, you get it…

I realized that Bunnies like humans, react to the environment, to the situation, to their experiences in life.

The happy go lucky one, had a happy good childhood, free from worries and things that cause bunnies anxiety, like lack of carrots etc.

The second one, well who am I to make judgments…

But the third, well he is just like us, some good experiences, but also learnt, you got to protect yourself to get ahead in life “sometimes this world can be a rat or bunny race!”

So the one day I cornered him – yep, I really did – you know scientists, they are completely immoral when it comes to experimenting with animals.

This is what I did – I forced him to be stroked.

Yep, I really did!

I stroked him and stroked him, so much that it changed his perception of humanity.

You see, now even though he is somewhat territorial, even though he is smarter than the happy go lucky “I can just run in the road and the world will take care of me;” nonetheless he also loves to be stroked.
