The key thing in life is to understand that there are five things that every single person needs, these are not negotiable!, the first thing we need as in Maslow’s hierarchy is we need our basic needs which is food, water, shelter, clothing; together with this, we also need to feel protected, and this is both on a physical level and on an emotional psyche level – which danger would be either God-forbid violence or unnecessary unwarranted malicious criticism – the second thing we need is the belief that we are loved, a human being is a social creature and to put it in context, psychologists say children need hugs and love more than they need food! the next thing that we need is self-discipline, without the ability to tell yourself what to do, perhaps no one summed it up better then Margaret Thatcher who said "a person without God / religion is a slave to their passions," as we can see with the terrible problem of addiction, which also can be towards many things such as pornography, sexual addiction, sadism even self-harm, and the mechanism to gain self-control is to understand, that like a horse and Rider, unless the rider takes the reins, the horse will take the rider where IT WANTS TO GO, so unless you shout at yourself! until you have the ability, to get yourself to do what it is that your brain thinks you should… this is critical! – the fourth thing that we all need is we need a sense of higher purpose, for even if you had all of the above, as we see so evidently in Western societies, in which we have great prosperity and safety, but without a higher purpose, without a meaningful meaning for existence, it feels purposeless and meaningless, and of-course the purpose of existence is to add in goodness and kindness, and last but not least, you must have absolute Rock solid FaitH, belief and understanding, that the story of the Bible, namely, that all of reality is an opportunity to do good, and once all this good, like filling up a giant bucket on a lever, will tip the scale, then an infinitely perfect Utopiastic Messianic world – for we all must have constant hope – WILL COME!
