The Kabbalah teaches, desire is like a rope – imagine you have a rope pulling you, towards sex; another, towards truth; another, towards recognition; another, (perhaps) towards vengeance – Three important deductions: 1. It will be the strongest pull, you follow! 2. Each pull not only conflicts, but lessens the others! 3. Only by understanding, that until you dissociate (usually or perhaps exclusively, through repulsion (feeling repulsed = the opposite of desires) from all ties, then and only then are you truly free.
