| There are many terms to God.
An atheist once asked a Rabbi, more like challenged, “I don’t believe in God” said he; “In the God, you don’t believe in, I don’t either.”
In other words, how you define God, makes all the difference in the world!
First, man believed, many forces controlled the world.
Then Abraham came along and changed that!
He reasoned, quite correctly, that it would be literally impossible for so many contradictory forces to work in tandem, to produce the miracles of
nature.
If anything, science, confirms his assertion!
However, even Abraham was in for a surprise!
For what Abraham did not realize, was the essence of last weeks Torah Reading, Lech Lichah, that infinity too, has no need to be infinite!
In other words, many of us are willing to concede there is the God of Abraham, however, we anthropomorphize this Creator!
Much as if we had such ability, we imagine, he loves himself, and hence is removed from small human creatures – earthlings like us!
This of course, is a gross misinterpretation of reality, nonetheless, one so strong, that besides Judaism, and even within Judaism, particularly in Jewish mysticism, is this reality revealed and restructured to the truth.
When God personally came to Abraham, Abraham who was nothing short of the greatest philosopher to ever live, realized that God is also humble!
God is so humble that he is and will come to each and every earthling for his love is not egotistic, rather selfless.
Like a mother’s sacrifice for her children, not a father’s ego boost through his children, God’s love for us, is for us, not for himself! |
