The greatest challenge in life is this

 

If you have two desires (e.g. lust and love,) each one to some extent cancels out the other, (with the stronger – in direct proportion to its strength relative to the other – wining,) hence there is one, and only one mechanism for a successful, productive, meaningful, loving life – cancel all desires! for all desires are serving Avodah zara, (a foreign service; for what difference, if you serve God forbid an idol or your own instincts? as they both deny God’s, noble, compassionate desire) and hence the only desire every man must have is, what is God’s desire? as our sages teach, If you cancel out your desire, for God; then he will ensure that others people negative desires against you, too will be canceled
