The Freedom Of Servitude

By zevi770 · February 5, 2014

“Here’s a deal” says God to the Jews “no more will you serve Pharaoh, you will serve me instead.”

Is that a good deal?

Trading one master for another?

The answers is, that serving Pharaoh is slavery, while serving God is freedom.

In other words, there is a Pharaoh in us and that is our ego (the crushing of Pharaoh was the spiritual crushing of our irrational ego.)

Our ego, like a child throwing a tantrum, is not obsessed with reality, nor even with our instinctual pleasures or pain, it is obsessed with a single thing “I” – “I want” – Because I want or made it a desire, it is therefore, that I am entitled to it!

This attitude is why people are unhappy!
For no matter the benefits – heck, today we live far better, longer etc. etc. than ever before; yet people are just as, if not more miserable!

For as long as our ego plays a role in our lives, nothing we have can make us happy; for my life is about I, and my I can only see more and more and more!

This is why King Solomon in his great wisdom said “He who loves money is never satisfied by it;” for our sages state, that when one earns a million, they desire two, which is empirical from human behavior.

On the flip side, there is completely annihilating our ego.

Dissociating from our own self – dissociating from our I, and submitting to God’s I!
