The Ego Trap
By zevi770 · April 21, 2013
What is our greatest desire and (hence) our greatest trap – pride.
A person naturally desires to be proud of themselves, to the extent, the Rebbe says – and the Rebbe knows what he is saying – that, man’s greatest happiness, is being proud of himself!
However, there is a fundamental flaw in this, when we assume, that our “Coichi Voitzim Yadi Asaha Es Hachayil Hazeh – I created this success.”
There is a fundamental difference between ego, “I,” and feeling proud of oneself.
Feeling no sense of arrogance, can go consistently with being truly proud of oneself, the proof is, a young boy was so proud of himself for being able to read the first Kametz vowel in Hebrew – he wasn’t in the least bit arrogant, knowing that adults know how to read all the vowels, but he was mighty proud of himself!
In a similar sense, we need to let go of our delusions of grandeur, which are our greatest trap.
On a person level, believing “I caused my success” was my greatest trap, for if I caused my success, it logically – subconsciously follows – that “I am master of my destiny” hence, I am always at odds with anyone or anything which doesn’t confirm my delusion!
