The dancing flame

Fire is one of the most unique things in our world, for it dances.
The truth is, everything else is unique, fire is not.
For as scientist tell us – quantum physics – everything really is dancing (waves) only when we look at it, does it become stationary!
So fire must be here to teach us something!
We all must really learn from fire – in fact, the Kabbalists use fire (light) and its unique constant movement, as an example for God.
The lesson – particularly in Chanukah, when we add flames to our dancing candelabra (Menorah) nightly, is very profound!
You see, three kinds of people there are:
The first see only death – yes death – for death is cold, unmoving, insensitive – they live in the cold, harsh reality of our natural order.
The second, see only light, they know there is a God beyond our reality, they await the messiah, they rely on miracles – they dissociate with our cold reality.
But of course, isn’t the greatness of God in his infinity, Who unites life and death, Who places souls in bodies; Are we not all testimony, that fire and water, ice and heat, life and death can merge seamlessly!
And this is the lesson from the dancing fire:
Seek not to ignore heaven, seek not to ignore earth;
But realize, that just as in the dancing flame, it continuously surges to heaven, but pulled by its tetheredness to the flame’s wick and candle, it must return back to its purpose to provide light on earth – we too must strive for heaven, but then return back to the ultimate purpose of all, to add a twinkle in someone’s eye!
