The consequences of following our hearts

The story is told that before Rabbi Shalom Dovber the fifth Chabad Rebbe known for his incredible erudition in Chassidus systemizing, categorizing, hence called the Rambam of Chassidus, passed on, he was laying almost lifeless in his bed.

His son realizing the critical moment – connected to his father heart, soul, and mind – shouted “Tatteh!!!” “two wet tears rolled from his father eyes.”

At some point his father said, the following words “Emotions? Emotions? Intellect! Intellect!”

His bereaved son immediately changed his composure from emotionally laden to intellectually contemplative.

Perhaps this is the greatest challenge of life.

In fact all of the challenge of life can be summed up in this challenge.

“Emotions? Emotions? Intellect! Intellect!”
