The chains of love

By zevi770 · December 18, 2013

People by nature are social creatures.

We are born to love.

But what happens to someone who is denied their very greatest desire?

Well a famous study was conducted, in which monkeys – who hate water – were introduced into a cage, and in the middle there were bananas – which they love – and they of course gingerly approached, but whammo, a jet of water shoots out and every time they approach, whammo (imagine if God-forbid, say your favorite ice cream was in the freezer, but every time you open the door of the freezer, you get a bad electric shock) so of course they learn that the pain is not worth the pleasure, but after four monkeys are introduced and whammoed; a fifth is introduced, but no whammo!

He of course goes and eats the bananas.

Do the other monkeys clap? No, they beat him up! For it is not fair that you should have what we don’t!

This simple notion that if it’s not fair – “you don’t deserve what I can’t have” – is at the heart of all human cruelty.

It’s called jealousy.

But let us go back to the original premise.

Humans are social creatures, we love, love.

But what if ones identification with fellow humans – their love for them was destroyed – what then?

Well then their jealousy for all those whose hearts still love is aroused.
