The bottom line of the world is so simple it really is the bottom line of every individual, as our sages teach us, that the entire universe in microcosm which like dna contains everything, is the macrocosm of the world – the thing is, in ourselves we even subconsciously (hence consciously are unaware) deny our negative; so by looking at the macrocosmic world, we can change our microcosmic, which will affect the entire macro – so let’s begin with the macro – nowhere is good and evil more clear – something we sorely lack, as J.R.R. Tolkien a very profound thinker said, that in times bygone good and evil was clear, for example liberty versus tyranny, the problem today is, that people don’t know what is good and what is evil?! – but the truth must become evident – in fact, the times we live in today serve primarily as a mechanism that those born into liberty and unaware of the pitfalls of tyranny (which is why we still idolize Kings and Queens, mafia murderers etc.) must have a clear image of good and evil and choose accordingly – so let us take Hamas which means violence and Israel – nowhere do the forces of light and darkness, those who stand for life and those who stand for death, in greater contrast – Hamas cannot even keep to a ceasefire to serve its own people – unfortunately they represent the true element of human darkness – which is hate – hate born, drives a person mad – insane with a false and demonic love for the destruction and demeaning of whom we hate, the human can see nothing good in his enemy, in fact nothing good in his own life until he like a cannibal eats his enemy alive – lest you think this is so far-fetched from our reality, how do you treat someone you are mad at?? – when a child gets hit by a friend he rests not until he at least hits his friend back – he desires that “you should feel the pain you inflicted on me” (this is not to say hate comes only as vengeance; were that the case, the corollary would be love is a result of kindness and we all know how little we actually repay in kindness those who have been kind to us – think nothing more than to your own parents) for hate is born in the ego’s assumption of invincibility – deluded by our very existence – not unlike an avatar who certain as he is that his world and by extension he himself is eternal, the ego cannot tolerate any injustice (to itself) hence jealousy born of resentment (which as we see in four thousand years of antisemitism doesn’t take any act of violence from the victim to the aggresor, rather the delusion that somehow your greatness is superior, as we see in Germans, as the bizarre notion of an Aryan super-race falling on interested German ears, permitting atrocities unfathomable to bolster their delusions of grandeur) so yes the evil of hamas exists in you and me – sorry, but until we see and recognize cancer we cannot eliminate nor can we stop its infiltration – and the antidote is to be a Jew, there are two names for the Jewish people, one Jew, which comes from the word Yehudah, which means to be grateful, but behind the word to be grateful comes another which means (odeh) to admit – yes, we admit we are but avatars – only God’s continual flow of love brings our bodies (which are matter hence energy, which need to, like electrons flowing continually be recreated, energized, brought out of sheer nothing into existence) hence cognizant of our absolute dependence, our ego shunted, our arrogance deflated, we are capable of seeing the enormous unconditional love and blessing God continually bestows to each and every human unconditionally – and then there is the second name Israel, coming from Yisroel which means fear or reverence of God, so we recognize, not only are we grateful, but even more so, we are obedient – we recognize, that life is not merely a gift, it is also an obligation, in truth opportunity which we fulfill through adhering to a calling higher than our instinctual lusts and narcissistic ego – as the Rebbe so simply and elegantly summarized Judaism “add a little more daily in goodness and kindness.”
