The amazing story of our brains – our brains are processing machines – they process incredible data – in fact, at every given moment they process 400,000,000,000 bits of data which we are only aware of 2,000 – but what’s really interesting about our brains is, they develop neural pathways – so for example if I do something repeatedly, the law of attraction kicks in – now that attraction may be both a positive or negative, it may be, that this stimuli makes me feel good, so wherever I look I see it, or the reverse – there is a famous psychological test to draw some scribbles and ask someone what they see – however and this is the great undoing of psychology, if the brain is continually drawing attractions, just as it can learn, it can unlearn, hence the advice from Jewish mysticism is not to think about thoughts you don’t wish to think about (obviously as the brain is always thinking, Jewish mysticism suggests, you should have memorized some chapters of Tanya (or any positive prayers etc.) and when you are aware you are neurologically committing suicide, you change tracks – now, this is my humble opinion: – I think that a large part of our problem in the west is, we don’t realize the brain is a product of our own decision – we think “what I am thinking is absolutely my thoughts,” which is no different to say saying, “the channel I am watching is my production” – once we realize that through choice we hold the remote, through effort we can change the neurological waters to any color, and we exercise that choice! then and only then – and I believe out of necessity we shall all learn this skill, for the brain neurologically will either be an addict (to any form of pleasure, be it sex, or even company, or power etc.) or God-forbid the reverse, set up a fear-based neurological response and the way to overcome fear is again through positive thinking – Mainly see the brain as being in a color scheme – you are either in white or red – white is “God is taking care of me and the universe!” red is, “evil is”)
