In this chapter the Alter Rebbe declares what the second soul in a Jew is:
This soul he says, is literally part, like a spark, of God.
One may wonder, how can a spark of God descend? – This is similar to the analogy of the DNA of a parent passing its DNA on to become every part of the child – so the DNA of the child, from his head to his toenails are a hundred percent the DNA of the parents.
BTW we see this clearly, as Jewish people are uniquely and innately extraordinarily compassionate, which parallels the Baal Shem Tov’s teaching, that the Jewish soul mirrors its source!
