Chapter 10
Now the Alter Rebbe describes the level of the Tzaddik Vra Loi / incomplete Tzaddik.
As we have learnt there are two subconscious forces in us – the Divine soul’s longing for God and the animal soul’s longing for pleasure.
One who has attained a love for God which seems to leave no room for love for physical pleasures can still be called an incomplete Tzaddik.
The completely righteous Tzaddik has such a perfect longing for God that he despises the pleasures (not that he doesn’t want them but despises them) this is because all things in our world have an energy source and all pleasure (not for higher causes) are directed by the kelipos, the very antithesis of God (for if you love someone very much you would despise another who tries to harm them.)
