Summary of Daily Tanya # 18

The type of love that transforms the animal soul’s lust into Divine longing is what is called love of pleasure – when a person can experience a pleasure in the Divine (for pleasure is addictive so instead of being addicted to the natural bodily pleasure, the animal soul transforms into a higher addiction.)

 

Now one might ask, why give us an animal soul in the fist place if the whole goal is to have Divine desires (what I writing now is not only based on Tanya but a number of the Rebbe’s teachings in this regard) the answer is, that in truth there is a third soul, the independent objective observer – this soul constitutes who we are (for obviously we are our opinions which distinguishes us from animals that have no opinions) so in simple words, the goal of God is to get you to choose God – it is the very tension between these two souls, the conflict, the experiences, the ups and the downs that ultimately lead you to choose a Divine destiny.
