So Rabbi Burland, head of the Shuva Breslov movement has admitted in a plea bargain to sexual misconduct – though one cannot be too sure about plea bargains, as the state basically blackmails – however assuming that his words are correct, and he molested, the question is, is he a monster? and this brings us to a fundamentally important and all-encompassing point – we have a tendency to seek safety and in the need for safety we see things in black and white (which is why no one in a biased – who has a reason to believe anything – sees in an unbiased fashion) So you see, looking at the flip side, I believe there is an extraordinary lesson here – this is how I read Rabbi Burland… – he certainly is a man of much fervor and passion – he single handily encouraged hundreds of people – some who I personally hosted and can attest are wonderful people who made complete 360 life changes because of him – but the problem with passion, is, that it engulfs not only the Divine side – but like a fire unchecked it increases also our animal side
