So are people good?

The answer is complex, yet accurate: 99.9999999 percent of people are good at heart – which doesn’t necessarily translate into good at deeds; for often our instinctual desires, be it for pleasure, laziness, depression (when things feel hopeless) anger (when things feel unjust) arrogance (a common human weakness) etc. get in the way of actually fulfilling our good heartedness; which is why, as Frued correctly surmises, many people admire saints though few act like them.
However, among those 99.99999999%, there are many that feel afraid of others, for somewhere, they had negative experiences with people – which creates a permanent fear, and hence, as fear causes us to retract from what we fear, it is almost impossible to also love what we fear.
Then, unfortunately a very nasty trait appears, called jealousy – jealousy arises because ultimately we desire to be happy, but we can scarcely be happy if we are in fear; though we notice that there are others who are happy – hence, jealousy causes tyranny, which is why there are bullies, terrorists, antisemites, generalized anti-Americans.
However, there is a .000000001 percent called Amalek – interestingly, ancient Jewish sources called Germans Amalek – which are rotten to the core, they lack that compassion germane to people, and even today, one sees a tremendous coldness, almost a lack of humanness, amongst the germans!
