The Alter Rebbe, the founder of Chabad Chassidus, the intellectual understanding of Jewish mysticism see a great message in this:
Namely, that everything has its life/energy and death/matter side to it.
Life is recognizing the energy, life, soul, God that animates, breaths it into existence; death is failing to recognize the energy, life, soul, God that animates, breaths it into existence.
