roles – e-pluribus-unum

I met a lady the other day who reminds me very much of another lady I met – they both came from the Mennonites – which is sort of like the Amish community

And I was struck by how, well, comfortable they were to be ladies

What I realized and I believe we see this in all traditional societies is that there are clearly defined roles

Far from these roles stifling people, they in fact encourage people.

This is not to say that some of the evil Islamic practices in which women are literally imprisoned by men is o.k. rather in the normal good societies – certainly Biblically based – we find clear roles.

I recall when I was teaching in university I mentioned to my friend Dr. Kulick, a preeminent psychiatrist, that is seems that the girls seemed very confused – “yes” he replied “they have too many options.”

Once upon a time when life was clearly marked, well people had clear markers.

In the end of the day, this is not to say all in the past was right but it is to say, by nature we humans crave clarity.
