Reb Levi Yitzchok of Berdichev was given the honor of saying the Atah Hareisah in Synagogue – he put on his Tallis, went to the amud (lectern) but stood there for a while – After five minutes of silence he said out loud – “O.k. if you are such a scholar, such a tzaddik, why don’t you say atah horaiseah” – He took off his Taalis and left – When asked he explained – “As I came to say atah horiasa the demon inside of me (us) the Yetzer Hara) began to take pride from this honor” – so I told him, “I not he is saying atah horiesah” – so he replied (I don’t recall the exact exchange) that he is worthy – “But I studied Torah” I replied – “But I was there with you” – “But I am a disciple of the maggid” I replied – “But I was there with you” – so I told him “O.k. if you are so holy etc. why don’t you say it!” – the lesson is, pride is simply a delusion
