re people kind? – depending on your experiences you may think not, but the fact is, children are born – as long as they are nurtured with high levels of compassion – this is a subject of much research by nuero surgeons – so what happens? – I don’t have research to back me up, but this is what I think – quite simply it is our naturel tendency to have compassion – as mentioned; one must first be the recipient of unconditional love which will engender unconditional love towards everyone else, as we love by association; for example, someone whose puppy was beloved to them, loves all dogs, someone bitten by a vicious dog will fear and hence resent, hence hate all dogs – so unfortunately what often occurs is people, themselves victims of bullying, often through jealous parents, will bully you or someone, this is a jealousy over your compassion (this explains the bizarre phenomena of anti-Jews, for those who came from loveless societies got jealous of those who came from loving societies, explaining as well the bizarre phenomena of anti-America, usually by those countries like Russia, who support people like Assad etc.) in the final analysis, the human heart as Rabbi Bechaya teaches, cannot hold love and fear for the same stimuli simultaneously – going back to the dog analogy, you either love or fear dogs, you cannot both love and fear dogs.
