Rashi, a famous commentator on the Torah teaches, as you (or another) thinks, sees, feels about others, so do you think others think, see, feel, about you!

A good example of this, is, when Arabs lost wars in Israel, many fled for their lives, for they perceived, that just as they would of, God-forbid, pillaged, murdered, after conquest, Jews “naturally” would to.
This is an amazing concept – how you think, see, feel about others is in truth, NOT how they think, see, feel about you!
Succinctly, a person whom loves others, may or may not be loved by others. We see clearly, as Americans and Isralies, though we love and care deeply for all people, as many people are jealous of us, their desire is to kill us God-forbid!
Likewise, the person who is jealous and thus hates, is not necessarily hated. For, a normal, healthy person, whose self-esteem is intact, cares and loves all people!
Last but not least, the absolute perfection of attitude perhaps is summed up in the Talmud “Treat everyone with respect, but suspect them as a thief” in other words, to have naive love is to invite terrorism, to have hate is to be a terrorist, hence the middle path!
