What you have asked is an awesome question, which begins with an erroneous premise.

You asked “why do people hate to see people happy?”

People love to see people happy! – the proof is children.

Are we more ourselves in childhood or adulthood?!

You see, it goes like this – happy people love to see happiness.

Unfortunately the reverse is also true.

Now, to answer why.

You see, within all people is both love and jealousy –
hence when I am happy (and hence not jealous – for jealousy is based on misery) then your joy is mine, and likewise your pain –
happy people feel compassion –
unfortunately if G-d-forbid I am miserable, then not only do I usually “lick my wounds;” a deep jealousy over happiness (which is what causes bullying; the bizarre phenomena of antisemitism (the random murder of objectively one of the kindest nations to ever exist – in fact, it is for this reason there is so much anti-America –
as generally Americans are blessed both with prosperity and far more importantly an internal sense of their dignity, based on their good values, hence miserable people (usually having been shamed – by someone who was likewise – become jealous.)

Now what is so interesting about jealousy – as opposed to all emotions (say love) which we self-acknowledge (as there is nothing wrong, and perhaps something right – and we all wish to imagine we are good and not bad) jealousy which is nothing more than the desire to cause wanton misery (it’s the source of all maliciousness – including terrorism etc.) is something which the subconscious not only denies – but in fact justifies!

This why radicals are so passionate – it’s not that they stand FOR a cause, but use “causes” to make others feel inferior.

Practically speaking, if you wish to be happy – a. you must overcome fear – please go to my website LACADEMYOFLIFE.ORG where you will find Kabbalah Booklets on overcoming fear (as fear is our first source of misery) and b. there are multiple techniques in my book Kabbalah-Love – to induce true happiness.
