Psychologists say there are basically four stances – passive, passive aggressive, aggressive and assertive – we are born basically passive, but if or when we have an ego / anger, so we become passive aggressive – in other words, as we are dependent we take revenge in a subtle way – stonewalling etc. (revenge is taken in a way that we cannot be overtly considered evil) If we flip to the state of fear, anger, hence jealousy / hate, then we become aggressive, but hopefully we eventually learn distinctions – when to be passive to avoid confrontation and when to be aggressive to solve a problem – for example, the same Bible that says in stone, “Do not murder” has four laws to “show no mercy on a roidef, which is someone who intends to murder, for if my heart is not strong enough to murder a murdered, I become an accomplice.”
