Perhaps God sent us into exile, so we should not be like the Jews who asked the prophet Shmuel “let us be like all the other nations,” for the Jews having been so absolutely blessed with God’s wisdom, making ordinary lives extraordinary; hence failing to appreciate their unbelievable good fortune; hence necessitating leaving Israel; living within and though retaining the Jewish body, nonetheless, assimilating the non-Jewish cultures and realizing that its emptiness is tasteless, its darkness abhorrent, its lifestyle totally stupid.
