perception creates emotions!

By zevi770 · April 30, 2013

When I was the Rabbi in a resort town, a congregant of mine arranged for a colleague of hers to speak, he was an expert on stress and he gave the following analogy to show how stress is not biochemical rather it is based on perception of danger (which obviously starts the chemical reactions) say you walk into a room that is filled with snakes – bit stressful, correct? – but say a snake handler with his tools to lift snakes and his experience of decades that tells him he has nothing to fear walks into that room, no stress! – in other words, perception creates emotions!
