Our lives are basically a paradox: we think we live indefinitely, yet ask anyone over ninety and they think, life flew past in the blink of an eye; we think we are good, yet ask anyone over ninety and they are plagued with deep deep regrets; we think we are smart, yet ask anyone over ninety, and they will tell you how much they realize they don’t know! – at the essence of this paradox, lies a delusional sense of who we are – so let’s wisen up a bit – by seeing who we were, objectively; we gain a perspective of who we are – objectively speaking, all human wisdom can be succinctly summarized in the advice of King Solomon, who plummeted the depths of human wisdom and the very last words of his final book was: “in the end of the day, all that matters is to understand, there is a God, and to fulfill his ordinances, for that and that alone is the sole purpose of our being” – but to take it a step deeper, for since King Solomon, great Kabbalistic and Chassidic masters have clarified, why? – why did God create us? – does he need an ego boost? – the answer is, God loves us beyond human capacity to even comprehend – and in his wisdom, the mechanism that we ourselves can get rid of that delusional side to us (which is necessary, for in effect we are that perception of our existence, which comes from that delusional side) the mechanism to overcomes its terrible effect on us (namely anger, hence violence etc.) is specifically, through submitting ourselves to God.
