One of the hardest things in Judaism, especially Chassidus, especially being a Lubavitcher Chossid is the absolute mind boggling amount of positive instructions – you know, tell me keep kosher, not so hard, but 613 mitzvos; a million personality shifts and with the Rebbe, infinite increases in more goodness and kindness! so how do we make sense of it all – some people may want to chop off my head for saying this, but it is based on the Rebbe and Kabbalah so it is the truth – the truth is, three realities are absolute, unchangeable and hence there is no elimination, rather a merging of the three in a sequential pattern, the first is, time; as long as you live on planet earth, you are a subject of time; the second is God, who obviously, is beyond time and space; and the third, is the Jew (or person) who desires a more spiritual meaningful life – so the point is this, number one, based on the fact, we are subjects of time, it is unfair, unrealistic and as our sages state “God doesn’t give us more than we can handle” to expect that any person needs to do everything! for in the end of the day, all we can do, is a single thing at a time! – so then the question is, “what should I be doing of the Godly instructions?” for all the above mentioned wisdoms comes from God telling us what to do and the answer is simple – number one, don’t be hard on yourself if you can’t! because the same guy who is telling you what to do, placed you within a time based reality and desires you act in a sequential normal reality as well! – so it seems to me, the key thing is not what to do, like figuring our a diet and religiously ignoring all other realities, but yours! rather, the key is to simply be open to do ANYTHING God tells you to, and hence very much in a sequential fashion as you are flexible, you simply do the latest, which is how Judaism instructs us to listen to the last Rabbi even in contradiction to earlier ones (as long as he follows the halachic system of course) for he combines alL the wisdom of the past, and is speaking to your reality today! and yes, that very same Rebbe, can change the goal-post as the Rebbe did in the final talk to shluchim 5752, away from simply being mekarev (outreach) yidden to focusing on more acts to bring Moshiach; so the key key key thing is, though God is beyond time, he communicates within time! and it is our job to be able to shift and allow the latest instruction to be the current instruction!
