Once upon a time – this is actually a true story – Rabbi Yosef Wineberg was sent by the Previous Rebbe to Chicago (this was in the 1940s when it took over 24 hours by train) They visited a Jew to encourage him in his spiritual standing – following their visit, he took out a checkbook and offered a donation to the visiting Rabbi – “But I didn’t come here for a donation” – “You mean to tell me that you traveled 24 hours just to share some inspiration!?” – “You see” the Rabbi said “every Jew is like a letter in the holy Torah, if one letter is missing we all are missing!” – Upon their return they told this to the Previous Rebbe – “What you said is true” he replied but it goes far deeper – “every Jew is like a letter in the ten commandments! – you see a letter written in ink can be erased for it is not the essential part of the parchment (paper etc.) but a letter engraved can never be erased – worse case scenario some dirt must be washed off!”
