Nothing but nothing, yes, nothing but nothing, is worse than desire, for it sets up a infatuation with the object of the desire which as desire is usually related to fantasy and is not grounded in reality e.g. to be rich, recognized etc. etc. that ultimately leads a person to mid-life crises (when they realize their desires won’t be fulfilled) so the only desire that never is an impossibility, rather with a bit of effort is achievable, hence fulfilling, is fulfilling God’s desire to live a life of compassion!
