Never forget, the purpose of the Mitzvos (commandments, usually thought of, between man and God, such as eating Kosher, putting on Teffilin etc. etc.) is as our sages teach, only only only to refine us! so a arrogant person who eats Kosher, or distributes charity with self-importance, is not acting Jewishly! and in fact, if his Torah studies and Mitzvah performance, causes him arrogance! he would be far better off to have not begun; for as the Talmud teaches, Torah can either be the source of life – if it refines – or the source of death – if it causes arrogance!
