my message – Freud said, you can see reality – subconscious – for on a conscious level most of us repress the motives, that don’t makes us look good; so we are left purely with the conscious rationalizations – from crazy people; for like a drunk person they spill the beans – The facts of life are both beautiful and ugly, the highest level of altruism and the lowest level of evil selfishness, jealousy hence cruelty – When our ego feels things are not fair, there is no crime it will not commit to balance the perceived injustice; for example, the Arabs feel that it is not fair that Yishmoel got kicked out of his home (typical sibling rivalry but on steroids) so they harbor a four thousand year grudge – only when we come to terms with the fact, that God runs the world and our concept of justice really is only our ego – So while we may possibly be objective, when it comes to what happens to someone else, so if I see a. God-forbid hurting b. I see that as cruel, when it comes to ourselves, our ego blows all things to make us feel justified – so only by realizing as the Alter Rebbe says (and as we can learn from Josef’s behavior in this week’s Parsha) by accepting that all that God does, is just, even if it was from a previous lifetime, we deserve this (which by the way is the reason Indians are very peaceful people, as they believe in karma – so instead of the bad the you do to me getting personalized and now I need to take revenge, as they see it as something they deserve they are not vexed.)
