My final speech (we’ll see about that – but if I did …)

The bottom line is, that all of life is about the building of relationships
As you have already figured out, relationships are very tricky things
When are you loving too much, when not enough?
Can you trust anyone, anyway?
The fact is, God also seeks a relationship with you.
The very first words of the Rebbe’s acceptance of the mantle of being Rebbe were, the quote “I have come into my bridal chamber, my sister my bride.”
In fact, King Solomon has an entire love poem of God’s love for his “daughter, sister, mother.”
How exactly does God relate to us?
Well in all relationships there is both the giver and receiver.
In our case obviously God the giver, we the receiver.
However there must be a need – for a giver is filling a need the receiver lacks – be it prestige, the fundamental motive of the female / male dynamic – be it the intangible mystique, the fundamental male / female dynamic.
Whatever it is, without there being a need, there would certainly be no desire.
So in other words, step number one in a relationship is creating the need.
Hence God sent us packing – in the world of stupidity our souls eventually cry – WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH – ENOUGH AIMLESSNESS! – ENOUGH MEANINGLESSNESS! – ENOUGH SEX, DRUGS, MONEY! – ALL WE WANT IS TRUTH!
In that vacuum, in the existential hole comes the existential husband – a light so unbelievably wholesome that we never wish to let go.
But then God says, “I have not created this world only for my need or desire for you – I wish for all people to relate!”
We must then abandon our husband wife relationship with God and enter into a new dynamic – now we are like the Chassid / Rebbe relationship, disciple to master, or student to guru – God becomes your personal mentor, your guide, he becomes your teacher – giving you missions – who to help – how to help – what to say – what not to say.
And by listening – the hardest challenge ever – then not only have you a beautiful relationship with God but with all people whose needs you have filled.
