Motives

There are forces that shape humanity unknown to humanity.
Of course, Freud taught us, that most of what we do is based on subconscious, not conscious desires.
Chassidus clarifies this best, explaining that our very thoughts are the products of the motives.
In other words, as Reb Menachem Mendel of Kotzk teaches, “What’s the difference between someone who searches for truth and someone who hates falsehood? – for seemingly they seek the same – but in truth, based on two different motives, they are opposing tendencies, for the one who seeks truth, rests not until he finds it, and the one who hates falsehood, rests not, until he too, finds what he despises!”
