Marriage

In marriage the Bible teaches us “It is not good for man to be lonely, I will assist him by creating a mate opposite him.”

There are many interesting explanations on this verse but perhaps the deepest is one from Rabbi Shcnuer Zalman of Liadi who explains the weird terminology of how someone opposite you becomes your assistance.

Fundamentally boys are attracted to girls and vice versa for we desire or we receive pleasure from that which is different.

The same is comfortable but boring, different is exciting.

So hence there is a natural mystique that man and women share looking at the other.

But in every relationship – at least the way God ordered reality – there is the giver and receiver, like a plug and socket they fit perfectly together however the receiver lacks identity and needs to wait for the giver to fill the socket (we are referring not to sexual, though it also applies, but only to energy – the best way for a man to understand this is to relate a time when he was a receiver, perhaps in childhood, so you needed to wait for your parents love).

Like the moon who patiently waits for the light of the sun to shine, a wife patiently waits (often in vain and hence resentment builds) for her husbands unconditional cherishing, admiration and love towards her to be able to fill her soul with the light that can then be reflected, filling her home and indeed becoming the mate i.e. the other half of the giver.
