Succinctly, Kabbalah teaches, three masters can rule us: ideally we are objective, we figure out the truth and are prepared to die, hence live by it!
This was the role models from Abraham down to the millions of simple Jews who quite literally gave their lives for their beliefs!
Far more common though, is the heart, the seat of desires, and these instinctive desires be they sex, food, drugs (for they simply cater to the instinct for pleasure and lack of pain) dominate man’s behavior.
But unfortunately, we have also been “blessed” with anger/ego/resentment, these are toxic feelings which a person tries to annul through acting out the vengeance they seek, hence the barbarism, sadism and cruelty which often, as people obviously aren’t stupid, hence, based on fear of punishment, hence may limit their cruelty to words!
