Like all things in our world, the greater its potential use, the greater its potential misuse; the thing which has the very greatest potential use, and misuse is quite simply our mind – our mind is what makes us unique – without a mind we would be as dumb as animals, never ever thinking, simply following our innate instincts; but here’s the catch, our ability to use our mind is perhaps far far far greater misused by our instincts, for ultimately we have but one mind – so a good parable for this would be, imagine a single computer, but two people are using it simultaneously – now by nature we hate schisms, we like order; the mind itself likes to have things in a sequence which is rational; so what the mind does, is it rationalizes our instincts – so know this beyond a shadow of a doubt, as the Baal Shem Tov taught, if you seek to understand the truth about any subject, ask yourself “how would I feel about this, if it would give me no-pleasure?” and may I humbly add, the converse is also true, if you are worried of receiving pain or shame and are doing something you are not interested in doing, ask yourself, how would I feel about this, if it would not be something that may prevent pain or shame – once you truly analyze all your opinions objectively and only then, can you assume you may be objective – but until then, you are completely biased towards your instinctual loves and fears.
