Light vs. darkness

Everything in life is light vs. darkness!
The Baal Shem Tov writes, a double darkness shall descend!
What is a double darkness?! When people see darkness as light!
Our world is aptly summed up in the following story, of one of the greatest Jewish mystics, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn, the Lubavitcher Rebbe.
The following story describes reality, he explains:
Once a man was traveling through a forest and unbeknown to him, his passenger was one of the thirty six hidden saints upon whose prayers all of reality depends.
Bandits attempt to hijack his wagon and rob his passenger, but he valiantly fought them off!
Unfortunately he died of his wounds.
Standing before the heavenly throne, angels argued, that this man deserves a great reward for having given his life to save this hidden saint!
And so it was decided to reward him the delights of heaven!
Unfortunately, in heaven, people bask in the radiance of Divine wisdom which this person had no talent for, nor possibly desire.
So they stuck him in the world of imagination (a dream world) in which like in the matrix, in his perception of reality, he has been granted the finest steeds, the best paying passengers, and a carriage that only a king would really own, and he is very happy!
Why is he happy? For his reality, his perception, his aspirations! illusion of grandeur! is the nicest carriage! the best paying customers! and the finest steeds!
Similarly, all of life is effectively the fad of the time.
No better example then fashion – beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder, for no sooner does a fashion fade; the same appealing dress, is seen with revulsion.
In other words, people allow people to influence their perception of what is desirable and once they desire, aspire, perceive it as cool! it then becomes cool!
But that is darkness pretending to be light!
Intrinsic light needs no fancy perception!
Sunlight and even the light of a candle, best left in a translucent globe, for the last thing you want to do, is dim its radiance.
Similarly in life, all that society, the masses, aspire to, is darkness.
Light is love, light is compassion, light is unity, and love, unity, compassion need no adornments, need no Madison Avenue Agency to sell it, for we can all – like light – experience its warmth!
