Light and darkness

By zevi770 · March 3, 2014

Many people understand that there is good and bad.
What many people don’t understand, or find it inconceivable to comprehend, is the same painter of light, is the same, painter of dark.

But think about a black and white painting, could you see the light without the dark?
As King Solomon, the wisest of all men said “I have found that light is better than darkness” – ask the Chassidic masters “Does it take King Solomon’s wisdom to see that?!” – “No” answer they “it is not that he found light is better than darkness, but people can only appreciate light, if they first see darkness!”

In other words, if nothing else, God created us – perception machines; but if everything would be light, we would take the light for granted! Would we appreciate God? Would we appreciate one another? Would we appreciate love? Would we appreciate freedom? – All of us who were born into these great gifts, know that we don’t.

Hence life has ups and downs, in fact life is a perpetual roller coaster, for it is not darkness but happiness God seeks, which we experience through the ups and downs – for it is only he or she who has been down that can understand when they are not .
