Life is really this simple, there is what is called (Kabbalisticly) energy and devices – for example, a dog obviously has energy, his predilections – instincts – and the device is the matter which that energy is contained in – a very good way to understand this, is hardware and software – so the hardware is the device and the software is the energy/direction that the device goes in- once we understand this, well there isn’t much left to understand, for effectively, there are three types of software programs – there is the software of an animal, which is purely selfish instincts, which is why all animals behave exactly as their software instructs the device – then there’re humans who have been given an additional software program, so in addition to our animal side (which is why we can be like an animal) we have a human side, namely the ability to reason, to feel compassion, to change our animal software or at least inhibit it in the face of choosing an alternative path (which as you know is not very simple) the third energy is God, who is pure unconditional sensitivity, compassion, kindness – now obviously it would make sense that the Divine energy should be how humans behave, yet we see savage barbarity and only recently have the gentile nations (generally) chosen love instead of war (though the Arabs who are behind the times, have not) so to give man a sense of accomplishment, we all have a tendency, which is the antitheses of God’s energy, called an ego, for only by submitting to God can we eliminate the source of savagery, an angered ego.
