Life is really so simple, as the Alter Rebbe says in the Bible of Jewish mysticism, there are only three possibilities: one, submission to God/ideals/goodness; the second, submission (or more like the natural disposition towards) instinctual pleasure (coupled with corollary fear of pain) and worst of all, the human insane desire for status (and its corollary anger, hence bullying etc. etc. when feeling unjustifiably lower.)
