Kabbalah teaches, a fascinating counter-intuitive reality – we all assume God tells the truth – but what is truth? – if I say to my wife “you look fat,” it may technically be true, but it is a lie! – you see, for, if fat is derogatory as opposed to complementary, what I really did was be derogatory! – so another way of understanding truth, is complementary (or complementing, i.e adding, benefiting) Once we understand this, it reveals a most fundamental difference, for what we may call a lie, God has no problem with – for example in the Torah, God clearly (for all posterity) lies, when he tells Abraham that his wife Sara said that “I cannot have children” (in fact, she said, Abraham cannot! but God wished to preserve their shaloim bayis – marital-harmony) In conclusion, none of us can fathom God’s way, except for the fact, as God says, “Though my ways are not your ways, My understanding beyond your conception! nonetheless, the result of my ways are always blessings!
