It seems to me that there are four simple categories, in which all people fall, let’s go from the ideal to the not so ideal

The ideal is what’s called “being a Merkavah” which is a state of our Forefathers, a state I believe every Jew will get to in the messianic age, which is simply being a conduit for God’s continuous GPS to you

The second, is searching for the truth and discovering God, and if you’re a Jew, Torah and Mitzvos, and if you’re a Gentile, the seven Noahide laws, and to a certain extent, at least if someone searches for the truth and discovers and follows even what they believe is true, it’s also a very positive step!

The next is being confused, so you know the reality that you were born into, the world, is wrong, it’s meaningless, hence you are still in the searching stage, which can be a year, decade, maybe even decades!

The worst, is when you think a lie is the truth; and there are two categories, one is when you are just following your culture, so God-forbid a person can be a terrorist, because that’s what his Imam is teaching him to do and even worse, is when a person is angry and of course people don’t think what they are doing is false, they think the other person deserves to be hurt.
